Little Explorers, Ages 3 to 4
Your child is at the pre-reading stage and meets sounds through play. Songs, sound cards, and short joyful sessions plant the first seeds long before formal reading begins.
Your child starts wherever they are, even before knowing a single letter, and climbs seven clear levels until they can open a page and read it independently.
Reading classes for kids in Ambon are guided lessons that take a child from meeting letter sounds for the very first time to reading full passages on their own. A Lilo tutor teaches through seven measured levels, using our own curriculum of leveled modules, at home, in a small group, or online.
Every child arrives at reading from a different starting point. We meet your child at theirs, whether that is zero letters or halting sentences, and build steadily from there.
Your child is at the pre-reading stage and meets sounds through play. Songs, sound cards, and short joyful sessions plant the first seeds long before formal reading begins.
Your child is getting ready for primary school. This is the heart of the journey: learning letter sounds, blending them into syllables, and reading their very first words with pride.
Your child can read a little and now needs strength. We work on tricky letter combinations, smooth sentences, and understanding what a passage actually says.
Your school-age child is still finding reading hard. We quietly find the exact stage where things got stuck and rebuild from there, so confidence returns along with skill.
Our method rests on a simple idea: sounds come before names, mastery comes before moving up, and small steady portions beat long tiring drills.
Every child begins with a placement assessment. We listen to how your child handles letters, sounds, and words, then place them at the level where learning feels achievable.
Your child learns the sound each letter makes, like /m/ and /a/, through songs and sound cards. Knowing the sounds is the key that unlocks everything after.
Sounds flow straight into syllables and syllables into words. We skip letter-name spelling drills entirely, so reading feels like one smooth motion from the start.
At the upper levels your child reads whole sentences with expression, then short passages with real understanding. Steady practice in the spirit of Kumon keeps progress calm and constant.
A leveled curriculum. Your child moves up only after mastering each stage, so the foundation stays solid.
Every tutor is verified before teaching, and sessions in Ambon run either at your home or on screen.

These are the signatures our tutors carry into every home and every online room in Ambon, refined across our own library of 122 leveled modules.
Your child learns that m says /m/ before learning its name. Sounds are the working parts of reading, and starting there makes blending feel natural instead of puzzling.
Sounds glide directly into syllables, so your child reads ma as one piece. This keeps reading smooth and spares them the slow habit of naming letters one by one.
Our leveled readers contain only patterns your child has already learned. Every page is a page they can genuinely finish, which is how independent readers are made.
Patterns like ng, ny, and tr trip up more children than any other stage. We slow down here on purpose, with extra practice and patience until they feel easy.
Each rung is a real stage in our own modules, and your child climbs one rung at a time, only after the current one is mastered.
Most reading struggles come from a handful of well-meaning habits. Knowing them early saves your child months of frustration and keeps the joy in learning.
Why it happensA child who chants b, u, bu is naming letters instead of hearing sounds, and that habit stalls blending for a long time.
How Lilo helpsTeach the sound each letter makes and blend sounds directly into whole syllables, the way every Lilo lesson does from Level 0.
Why it happensRecognizing the shape of A is a picture skill. Reading only starts when the child knows what that shape says out loud.
How Lilo helpsPair every letter with its sound from the first meeting, using sound cards and songs until the connection is automatic.
Why it happensA book full of unlearned patterns teaches a child that reading equals failing, and confidence drains fast.
How Lilo helpsUse leveled readers that contain only patterns already mastered, so every book your child opens is a book they can finish.
Why it happensPatterns like ng, ny, and tr are the most common sticking point in the whole journey, and skimming them leaves gaps that surface later.
How Lilo helpsSlow down at this stage on purpose. In our curriculum, Level 4 receives extra care, extra practice, and extra patience.
Your child meets the sound of every letter before its name, with sound cards and letter tracing that connect what the ear hears to what the hand writes.
Sounds join into open syllables and then into real words of two and three syllables, with timed reading sheets that turn accuracy into ease.
Your child conquers consonant endings, then the trickiest patterns in reading: digraphs, clusters, and diphthongs, taken slowly and with plenty of practice.
Reading grows from single words into sentences of 4 to 10 words, with punctuation, intonation, and rhythmic reading so the words come alive.
Mini stories invite your child to answer 5W questions, find the main idea, and retell what happened, which is where reading turns into understanding.
These are real pages from our own curriculum, printed on A5 sheets with generous practice portions. You can see what your child will actually hold, from letter sound cards at Level 0 to full passages with 5W questions at Level 6.

This Level 1 sheet from module 11 works on themed two-syllable words. Children point to each syllable, read it, then join the parts into a whole word, like sa-pi becoming sapi. A quick-read round wraps it up.

This Level 5 sheet from module 22 teaches children to come to a full stop at every period and to read sentences with lively expression. It works as a bridge toward smooth, fluent reading.

A peek at the real page: five vowels with their sounds plus fast reading. Your child learns each letter's sound, /a/ and /m/, before its name. This is the heart of the phonics method.
All four sheets come from Lilo's own leveled curriculum, 122 modules packed with generous practice on every A5 page.
